Friendly Fill-Ins: Week 12

Welcome to "Friendly Fill-Ins"! You can find the fill-ins here or at 15andmeowing.com each Thursday. The first two fill-ins are provided by my co-host, Ellen. The final two statements are offered by myself. We have posted a link so we can all share the completed fill-ins.

We thank you for joining us each week. Your participation is very important. Sharing with you and getting to know you better through your answers is what it is all about. Please remember to visit everyone on the list. Thank you!

Here are my completed fill-ins for this week:

1. One quirk I have is that I only read one book at a time. I like to totally immerse myself in each book that I read. I think that there are already enough distractions, so I do not want to create more by juggling books! I like to give each one my full attention.

2. My favorite comic strip is Peanuts! Anyone who knows me, knows this is a lifelong love. I have an especially fond attachment to Snoopy. I wanted a dog so badly when I was a kid that I named my pet rescue turtle Snoopy. It did not matter that she was a turtle, or a girl.

 3. I am really happy when my loved ones are safe and happy. Nothing makes me happier than knowing this. It really is that simple.

 4. If I could go anywhere on a road trip, I would go to visit South Dakota’s Badlands and the surrounding area. Bill and I visited that area when we traveled in a van as newlyweds. It would be a great experience to re-visit it, now.

~Happy Weekend!~

A Busy Summer

Summer does not wait. It flies by, even though its warmth and lazy feeling lull you into thinking that it is endless. There is so much to do and we have been so busy!

The gardens are growing, along with the weeds, both flowers and vegetables are flourishing. Bill has a very green thumb; I try my best to assist him. He does the serious work, while I weed.

The porch and cedar fence need to be re-stained this year. We have a very large yard with a six-foot cedar fence. Bill power-washed the porch and fence and has begun staining. We will be painting the garage next. We need to have them done by fall.

There is fun to be had, too. Bill has been playing some music on weekends, as he is able. He has been giving his guitars a real workout! He truly is a gifted musician.

The dogs have been entertaining us, as well as each other, too. When it isn't too hot, we all go for walks together. Well, the cats stay home. It is just better that way.

So, I am busy with many projects, which doesn't allow much blogging time. I will be posting and around to visit as I can, however. And when it all settles down, I will get back to a routine. I am working on that.

Life gets really busy that way sometimes. It is full of big and little things, and just does not wait. I know many of you are busy, too. Enjoy what you can, and make the very best of it all.

Friendly Fill-Ins: Week 11

Welcome to "Friendly Fill-Ins"! You can find the fill-ins here or at 15andmeowing.com each Thursday. The first two fill-ins are provided by my co-host, Ellen. The final two statements are offered by myself. We have posted a link so we can all share the completed fill-ins.

We thank you for joining us each week. Your participation is very important. Sharing with you and getting to know you better through your answers is what it is all about. Please remember to visit everyone on the list. Thank you!

Here are my completed fill-ins for this week:

1. I wish I could afford to hire someone to clean my house every week. It is really okay that I don’t have a housekeeper, but if I could…yes, it would be nice.

2. Zucchini is really good with tomatoes, onions, garlic and parmesan cheese. We usually can it to use later, too. It is really good with pasta.
 3. One Summertime memory I recall is learning to ride Uncle Eddie’s dirt bike. I had just turned twelve, school was out, and I was ready to roll! Uncle Eddie gave me lessons going down the old, dirt road. I was doing really well. Then we hit the corn field. I was flying…until I came up through the ditch and landed in the fire ant hill! I was instantly covered, as was the dirt bike. Uncle Eddie ran to me, grabbed me up and ran to Grandma’s yard. He hosed me off with the garden hose. I was crying and laughing at the same time. Poor Uncle Eddie blamed himself. I convinced him that I was fine, and to please let me do it again…without the fire ants!

4. This Summer I have been working on my journals. I am sorting through old thoughts and ideas, searching for bits and pieces to use in my writing. It is definitely a process that leads to other processes. I always find myself in there, right where I left me.

May your work always be play,
and may you always have helpers!

The Lilies

While we can, let's celebrate
the festive wild day lilies,

and the yellow lilies,

the orange lilies,

the deep rust lilies,

the red velvet lilies,

and even the rebellious striped lilies.
Just because.

Her Books

                                                                                 source

Alone, Abigail kept her house and yard as neat and tidy as she kept herself. She was friendly with her neighbours, but did not seem to have visitors of any kind. Busy with their own lives, they left Abigail to her own solitary life.

Time and circumstance had written Abigail's story, and she held the books as proof. On a shelf in her attic, she kept these books in pristine condition. The photographs in these books told the true story of a once happy family: her own.

Friendly Fill-Ins: Week 10

Welcome to "Friendly Fill-Ins"! You can find the fill-ins here or at 15andmeowing.com each Thursday. The first two fill-ins are provided by my co-host, Ellen. The final two statements are offered by myself. We have posted a link so we can all share the completed fill-ins.

We thank you for joining us each week. Your participation is very important. Sharing with you and getting to know you better through your answers is what it is all about. Please remember to visit everyone on the list. Thank you!

Here are my completed fill-ins for this week:

1. I prefer physical books to digital books. I like the feel of turning the pages in books, perhaps searching for something, or just savouring the story. Since very early childhood, for me, there is a feeling of security in holding a book.

2. Letting go was much harder than I expected. I pride myself on being loyal, but I am also a realist. While hope is a necessity in life, so is the ability to let go. When you have exhausted all possibilities, all that is left is “letting go”. Only you can decide when this applies to you and your given situation. This is what being a survivor is all about.

3. One way that I relax is to find a quiet place, get comfortable, and settle in with a good book. Perhaps this is also a guilty pleasure for me. Books have been an important part of my life for as long as I can remember. I plan to get back to reviewing a book once a week or so. I still read (always, avidly), so I will be reviewing books, again. Stay tuned.

4. Politics always makes me feel quite distressed. I am very passionate about my beliefs. I find it important to be well educated on current events, too. I listen to all sides in the political forums. However, I do not impose my beliefs or opinions on others and do not appreciate others trying to force theirs on me. Just because I don’t agree with you, it does not mean I don’t understand. Believe me, I do.

~Books are full of surprises!~
Make time for some Summer reading!

The Hollyhock Bees

We have a Hollyhock forest,
with traditional and double blooms.

The Hollyhock are filled with these busy bees.

I love to watch them gather pollen.

The bees become so heavy they can hardly fly!

Fascinating to watch, they are not bothered by me.

I think a flower is even more beautiful with a bee on it.

I love them as much as the flowers.

Friendly Fill-In: Week 9

Welcome to "Friendly Fill-Ins"! The first two fill-ins are provided by my co-host, Ellen of 15andmeowing.com. The final two statements are offered by myself. We post a link so we can all share the completed fill-ins.

We thank you for joining us each week. Your participation is very important. Sharing with you and getting to know you better through your answers is what it is all about. Please remember to visit everyone on the list. Thanks!

Here are this week's completed fill-ins:

1.) Catching a Walleye was easier than I expected. You just have to be patient and pay attention

2.) Bucket list: (I really do not have a Bucket List, but here are a few things that I would like to do, if I could):
   1. I would be thrilled to go on a whale watching cruise off the coast of Alaska!
   2. I have always wanted to take a Mississippi River cruise. I would love to explore the entire length of the river.
   3. I would love to visit Isle Royale National Park, in Lake Superior, near Copper Harbor, Michigan. I would like to stay at the lodge, go fishing, explore, and hopefully see a moose.

3.)I cannot believe how much the world has changed in my lifetime, and that includes my country. Needless to say, it is not all for the good. There seems to be a decline in morals and values. Man changes his mind often, but God never has.

4.) If I could see into the future, I would choose not to. I think it is better to take life as it comes. Don’t live in the past. Don’t worry about the future. Just live it as it unfolds and give it your best every day.

~Wishing you peace & love, and someone to share them with~

Off Market

Violet cried when she put her home of fifty years on the market. She and Willie had bought it as newlyweds and later went on to raise their son there.

As it should be, their son grew up, married, and raised a family in his own home. Willie was gone, too, though he went on to more heavenly endeavours.

Violet understood that Time moves on and that it was time for her to move on, too. She once heard that homes hold emotions of its residents, so she was sure the new family would be very happy here.

Well, Stella...

are you ready to go inside, now?

Have you had enough playtime?

Hmm?

Oh...maybe not.
