Friendly Fill-Ins: Week 21

Welcome to "Friendly Fill-Ins"! You can find the fill-ins here or at 15andmeowing.com each Thursday. The first two fill-ins are provided by my co-host, Ellen. The final two statements are offered by myself. We have posted a link so we can all share the completed fill-ins.

We thank you for joining us each week. Your participation is very important. Sharing with you and getting to know you better through your answers is what it is all about. Please remember to visit everyone on the list. Thank you!

Here are my completed fill-ins for this week:

1. Put a Little Love in Your Heart. Considering all that is going on around me, this is my honest thought.

2. My favorite magazine is one that educates me, inspires me, and gives me hope. I don’t read any magazine regularly, but when I do, it draws me in one of these ways

3. Recently, I came across a packet of my writing. It is all bits and pieces of unfinished poetry, along with some poems that are rough drafts. Several years ago, I lost a couple of volumes of poetry that spanned many years of my life. Autumn is always a time of personal reflection for me, so finding this packet of poetry is a special gift.

 4. Even though the world is consumed with “rights”, believe it all comes down to respect and treating others as you want to be treated. I believe it really is that simple.

It's about sharing. You just give what you have to give
wherever you go, and you let God handle the rest.

Friendly Fill-ins: Week 20

Welcome to "Friendly Fill-Ins"! You can find the fill-ins here or at 15andmeowing.com each Thursday. The first two fill-ins are provided by my co-host, Ellen. The final two statements are offered by myself. As always, we have posted a link so we can all share the completed fill-ins.

Thank you so much for joining us each week. Your participation is very important. Sharing with you and getting to know you better through your answers is what this is all about. Don't forget to visit everyone on the list.

Here are my completed fill-ins for this week:

1. The last movie I saw at the theater was quite some time ago. We tend to have a movie night at home much more often than at the theatre. It is more cozy, especially with PJs, pillows, blankets, and, of course, critters!

2. The title of my autobiography would be “Momcat”. I have contemplated this, and if and when I write a memoir, it will be about my life of animal rescue. “Momcat” has been a nickname of mine going back to when I first began mothering orphaned kittens, a lifetime ago! “Momcat” is even monogrammed on my favourite robe.

~Some of my babies, including George~

3. I would love to learn photo art. There is so much I would like to do with my photos, and just don’t seem to be able to get going with it. One thing that I really need to learn is how to block out a “cluttered” background to focus on the main subject, like one of the critters.

4. I am glad that I learned how to care for animals as a vet tech, because I have been able to make a real difference. Learning procedures, treatments, and special techniques, including rehabilitation, has helped me help so many. I feel blessed to have done that.

Autumn is here! Enjoy it with your friends!

International Day of Peace

"Turn from evil and do good;
seek peace and pursue it."
                                                   ~Psalm 34:14

Originally celebrated in 1982, the International Day of Peace is still observed worldwide. The day is considered one of peace and global ceasefire.

Each year the "Peace Bell" is rung at the UN in New York City to memorialize the unity of peace. The bell, a gift from Japan, is a reminder of the human cost of war. It is made of coins donated by children throughout the world. "Long live absolute world peace" is inscribed on the bell.

Peace on Earth, indeed.

The Happiness Tag

We were recently given the honour of The Happiness Tag. Our dear friends at The Cat on My Head blog have nominated us. We are so thankful that we make them happy, as they are very special to us, too. I am especially pleased that my writing touches you. Thank you, Kitties Blue. We love you all.

The Tag Responsibilities and my Responses:

1. List five “things” that make me happy…
              a) Giving and receiving love makes me very happy. Obviously this includes love with my husband of 35 years. However, this also includes others that I am blessed to love and be loved by: friends, family, and yes, even critters of all kinds.
              b) I find happiness in poetry and literature. I enjoy both reading and writing. It makes me happy to connect with a writer through their thoughts and words. It also makes me happy to have someone connect with what I feel and write.
              c) Music makes me very happy. I always say that there is a soundtrack to my life. I can hear a song and be taken back to when I first heard it. I can capture what was going on in my life and relate the song to people and events. Songs are very important to me. I am very blessed that Bill is an extremely talented musician. He plays the guitar with a keen understanding of music theory, arrangements, and the guitar itself. He also can play any genre of music with deep feeling and skill.
              d) I find a deep happiness in nature. There are certain places that I feel totally at peace, and many of them are in the upper peninsula of Michigan. I wrote a poem, "Brockway", that explains this. It can be found on my Poetry page.
              e) All animals bring me sheer happiness, plain and simple. They are genuine in their behavior and interactions. I love to watch them, learn from them, and am very happy, even blessed, to have them in my family and life.

2.List five favourite songs that make me happy…
              a) Somewhere Over the Rainbow (Judy Garland)~ This song makes me teary, but it makes me hopeful, too. There is happiness in hope.

              b) What a Wonderful World (Louis Armstrong)~ This song always offers perspective, reminding me of the important things in life. It is indeed the simple things that bring me real happiness.

              c) Happy Together (The Turtles) ~This is the song that Bill christened “our” song. We had been friends for three years before getting serious. This song was how he felt at that point in our relationship. It was true for us…and still is.

              d) "Linus and Lucy" (Vince Guaraldi)~ This song is pure happiness! Woo-Hoo! Happy dance!

              e) Uncloudy Day (Willie Nelson)~ This song is near and dear to my heart. Again, it is positive and hopeful. We need that in this world.

3. List five bloggers who make me happy…(not counting The Cat on My Head, who tagged me!)…
a)Ellen of 15andmeowing .com…for the things she does for cats and people, too.
              b) Trout Talkin' Tabbies…their posts always make me laugh and feel good.
              c) Animal Shelter Volunteer Life…for all of their wonderful work with shelter cats
              d) Four-Legged Furballs…who are so sweet and always make me smile
e)Jeanne Foguth of Purrseidon…who always offers something fun and interesting

We are nominating these five blogs for The Happiness Tag. We thank them for the happiness they share and hope they will accept the challenge of listing things and blogs that make them happy. But, we understand if they are too busy. We love them, anyway.

Thank you, again, Janet & Kitties Blue! Big Hugs!

Friendly Fill-ins: Week 19

Welcome to "Friendly Fill-Ins"! You can find the fill-ins here or at 15andmeowing.com each Thursday. The first two fill-ins are provided by my co-host, Ellen. The final two statements are offered by myself. We have posted a link so we can all share the completed fill-ins.

We thank you for joining us each week. Your participation is very important. Sharing with you and getting to know you better through your answers is what it is all about. Please remember to visit everyone on the list. Thank you!

Here are my completed fill-ins for this week:

1. Something healthy I do daily is to drink lots of water; the more the better. Staying hydrated is important for all systems in the body to work correctly. It is good for your skin, too. Water is life.

                                                                                           (Yes, it is George!)

2. Something unhealthy I do daily is not balancing my meals as well as I should, when Bill is on the road. Sometimes I even skip meals when I am by myself. I am working on that, though.

3. This Summer, Bill and I were able to do some gardening and landscaping together. We grew vegetables, as well as flowers, like we used to do. We also landscaped some new areas around the property line, transplanting several Rose of Sharon along the fence. It really looks quite nice!

4. This Autumn, I hope to get some answers and resolution from Mayo Clinic for my chronic anemia. I am really tired of being tired. I need to get my iron levels up to a normal range and keep them there for many reasons, including having my knees replaced (again). Anemia really affects everything.

~Wishing you a very restful weekend!~

The Sunshine Blogger Award

Sunshine Blogger Award, is a way of recognizing bloggers who are positive and whose creativity inspires others. We were surprised when Purrseidon recently awarded us with this award. We are very pleased to know that Purrseidon feels that way about us. Thank you, Purrseidon. If you have not met Purrseidon, please visit this special blog.

We used to have mixed feelings about awards and accepting them. Awards are never necessary, of course. I am always pleased when someone connects with what I say or share. It does my heart good to know that I have connected with someone in a positive way. I think it is special when someone feels that what I say or do is worthy of recognition. For that reason, I do accept awards. When I pass them on to others, it is because I feel they are worthy of that same recognition. Whether they accept or not is their choice, and I respect that, as always.

Rules:
*Thank the person who nominated you and add a link to their blog.
*Answer the eleven questions sent by the person who nominated you.
*Nominate eleven other bloggers, adding their links and asking them eleven new questions.
*Notify the bloggers you have nominated.

The Questions asked of me:
1. Where would you live if you could live wherever you wished?
I would live in the upper Peninsula of Michigan. I truly feel at home whenever I am there. My poem, “Brockway” speaks of this. (It is on my Poetry page.)
2. What is your favorite holiday?
My favourite religious holiday is Easter, followed by Christmas. As a Christian, these holidays offer hope and forgiveness. I need both, and believe that we all do. I have always loved Thanksgiving, too.
3. What is the top thing on your bucket list?
I really have no “bucket list”. For me, it is not about the things I do before I die. It is simply about trying to be a good and loving person every day, and finding happiness in that.
4. What is your favorite book?
I love “The Prophet”, by Kahlil Gibran, and cannot imagine a library without it. However, there are many books that I love. Some old favourites are: Mary Dove (Jane Gilmore Rushing), The Dogs Who Came to Stay (George Pitcher), Snowflake in my Hand (Samantha Mooney), but there are so very many others!
Authors that I love include Sherri Wood Emmons, Beth Hoffman, Lesley Kagen, Paula Treick DeBoard, Sarah Addison Allen, Lori Roy, Michelle Hoover, Bob Tarte, to name just a few.
5. What is your favorite movie?
I am a Bette Davis fan, so all of hers are great, but especially, “Dark Victory”, “Pocketful of Miracles”, and “The Whales of August”. Other favourites movies are, “The Other Sister” and “Benny & Joon”. There are many Christmas movies that I love.
6. If you could take your ideal vacation, where would you go?
My ideal vacation would be a whale watching adventure off the coast of Alaska, or a Mississippi river cruise, from North to South. Of course, I would be happy with two weeks of fishing up on Lake Gogebic.
7. If you had three wishes, what would they be?
I wish that humans would realize we are stewards in this world. It is our job to care for each other and all creatures we share this world with. And, I wish that wishes could (all) come true.
8. Do you speak more than one language, too?
I speak American English. However, I am fluent in Southern and Yooper, too.
9. What is your favorite color?
I love all greens and blues. However, I have an attraction to the colour grey, too.
10. What’s your favorite way to relax?
In a quiet place, with a cat, a dog, and a book. Okay, the number of cats and dogs isnot important, but their company is.
11. What is your favorite treat?
I think my favourite treat is probably ice cream or frozen yogurt. I especially love mint-chocolate chip. Oh, yum.

My Nominations:
*messymimi’s meanderings… http://messymimismeanderings.blogspot.com/

3. What is your favourite song?
4. What was your first pet?

6. What was your best vacation?
7.What is your favourite time of day?

Friendly Fill-ins: Week 18

Welcome to "Friendly Fill-Ins"! You can find the fill-ins here or at 15andmeowing.com each Thursday. The first two fill-ins are provided by my co-host, Ellen. The final two statements are offered by myself. We have posted a link so we can all share the completed fill-ins.

We thank you for joining us each week. Your participation is very important. Sharing with you and getting to know you better through your answers is what it is all about. Please remember to visit everyone on the list. I know that I will!

Here are my completed fill-ins for this week:

1. I can't wait for the new season of Criminal Minds on television. I have been a fan since the beginning of the series. I think behaviour profiling is not only interesting but also important. Figuring out why someone does something is fascinating. Figuring out the type of person who would do something can prevent crimes, as well as solve them.

2. In my home, little things need to be repaired. There are always routine, maintenance things like fence staining and garage painting. But, we stay on top of actual repairs pretty well! Bill is very handy with tools.

3. I thought I lost a close friend, but looking back, I realized it was never mutual. With age comes maturity; with maturity comes perspective. But I have no regrets. I was the best friend that I could be.

4. Once, I found a beautiful silver and blue pen. I was eighteen. It was a rainy day and I was walking to work. There, in a puddle, was the pen. It was so shiny that I couldn’t resist. I picked it up and put it in my pocket. Later, I cleaned it up and was happy to find that it worked. It became my journal pen…and it still is, 39 years later.

~Here's hoping your work is fun, too!~
