Friendly Fill-ins: Week 25

Welcome to "Friendly Fill-Ins"! You can find the fill-ins here or at 15andmeowing.com each Thursday. The first two fill-ins are provided by my co-host, Ellen. The final two statements are offered by myself. We have posted a link so we can all share the completed fill-ins.

We thank you for joining us each week. Your participation is very important. Sharing with you and getting to know you better through your answers is what it is all about. Please remember to visit everyone on the list. Everyone likes visitors. Thank you!

Here are my completed fill-ins for this week:

1. The first thing I check when I go online is email. With Bill on the road all of the time, I check for emails from him and for him. I dump Spam, then answer emails. First are business related email, then are social emails. Of course, there are then blogging comments and posts to create, after that. I am not really into all of the varied other social media outlets, not that anything's wrong with that. I do not know how others do it all…or why.
I try to focus on putting all of myself in one place as much as I canI know, I am often called a purist, in that I always believe less is moreBut, to me, it really is

2. My signature dish is potato salad. Obviously, I have others, including others I like better. However, this seems to be what I am always asked to make for situations where you bring something. I created this from a few other recipes when I was just a newlywed, and it is still well-received a hundred years later. *wink*

3. My Halloween night is usually quietly spent answering the beck and call of trick-or-treaters. Then I spend time with Linus in the pumpkin patch. After that, I have a date with young Dr. Frankenstein and his sidekick Igor. When Bill is home, we do these things together, but he gets to answer the door.

4. Trick or treaters have changed so much from when I was a kid. They seem scarier now! There seems to be a lot more “tricks” played now, too. I use that term loosely, as it is not a trick if you are destroying property or hurting someone.

~May your Halloween be filled
with special surprises and treats!~

Friendly Fill-ins: Week 24

Welcome to "Friendly Fill-Ins"! You can find the fill-ins here or at 15andmeowing.com each Thursday. The first two fill-ins are provided by my co-host, Ellen. The final two statements are offered by myself. We have posted a link so we can all share the completed fill-ins.

We thank you for joining us each week. Your participation is very important. Sharing with you and getting to know you better through your answers is what it is all about. Please remember to visit everyone on the list. Thank you!

Here are my completed fill-ins for this week:

1. One Halloween, I dressed as a hobo. I was ten years old. I wore scruffy clothes and had a bandana stuffed with things and tied on a stick. It was a lot of fun to be opposite to the fancy costumes of my younger years. Earlier, I had gone as a bride, a nurse, and even an elaborate gypsy. I never dressed as anything scary. Of course, I have dressed as cats, and bats, though.

2. My favorite comedian is one that is intelligent, as well as funny. I am an avid  fan of Monty Python. “The Holy Grail” is still one of my very favorite movies, and was the first actual date of Bill & I. I loved George Carlin and his sharp wit. I loved Gene Wilder and his easy humour. I loved Gilda Radner, Bill Murray, Martin Short, Molly Shannon, Will Ferrell, among other SNL comedians. I also love Keegan-Michael Key, Jordan Peele, Alex Borstein, Nicole Sullivan, Mo Collins, and the original Mad TV group. Humour is an important part of life. I have a dry "Far Side" sense of humour, with a bit of sharp wit. But, I have a silly side that I rely on daily. I am really a dork.

3. My scariest Halloween was a dark and stormy night…seriously! I was home alone as a teen. We lived in a townhouse where the windows were mostly uncovered. I was afraid to go downstairs, where I could possibly be seen through the sheer, open curtains. But, I was afraid to stay upstairs where I may be trapped if someone broke in! (That “Thump-Drag” story haunted me from youthful campfire nights. Oh, yikes.)

4. The Taffy Apple is my favourite Halloween treat. I have always associated this with both  Halloween and Autumn, and I still do. I have many fond memories of Taffy Apple Day in grade school. It was a special day when I was a very little girl growing up in Chicago. Taffy apples have sure come a long way!

Druthers

After visiting his special lady friends, Paul stretched out on his bed for an afternoon nap. It took a lot of work to be a proper gentleman in The Superior Retirement Home where he now lived.

As the day nurse came into the room with his afternoon medications, they exchanged knowing grins. Winking, she said to Paul, “You wouldn’t be so tired if you didn’t chase all of the lovely ladies here, Paul.”

Paul sighed, responding, “Oh, if I had my druthers, they would be chasing me.”

Aye, Aye, Skipper

Among my favourite butterflies are Skippers.

This Silver-Spotted Skipper was as curious
about me as I was about him.

He actually seemed to watch me watch him.

His favourite place to dine was my last Zinnia,

then he was off to enjoy the last of Autumn's warmth.

Friendly Fill-Ins: Week 23

Welcome to "Friendly Fill-Ins"! You can find the fill-in statements here or at  15andmeowing.com each Thursday. The first two fill-ins are provided by my friend and co-host, Ellen. The final two statements are suggested by myself. We post a link so that we can all share the completed fill-ins.

We thank you for joining us each week. Your participation is very important. Sharing with you and getting to know you better through your answers is what it is all about. Please remember to visit everyone on the list.

Here are my completed fill-ins for this week:

1. It is good to have a spare container of pet food. However, it crossed my mind to say a roll of toilet paper. When Chloe Jo was a kitten, she was obsessed with unrolling and destroying every roll of toilet paper she encountered. Then, she had so much fun teaching George to do the same. I actually caught them together more than once.

2. I don't understand why zombies are so popular. I just do not, for the life of me (literally), understand the attraction to anything like that. I am not a fan of horror, but this one is beyond me. For me, it is not about fear. It is about not wanting things of a negative nature in my life. Life is difficult and scary enough. Just sayin'

3. The spookiest thing that ever happened to me was admitting the intuitive feelings that I often get about situations, people, or places. When I do, I am inevitably correct. I keep these things to myself (or a select few) more often than not. However, if I feel it is a dangerous or important situation, I will voice my thoughts and concerns.

4. My favourite Halloween tale is “It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” or “Young Frankenstein”. As I said, I am not a fan of the horror genre…at all.

A Happy Birthday

If we remain young at heart, there is still time
to make our dreams come true. Let's do it!
Happy Birthday, Bill

Red Admiral

I recently had the pleasure of this visitor.

I was intrigued by his grey under wing,

and colourful top wing.

The Red Admiral (Vanessa Atalanta)
is a Brush-footed Butterfly...and a beauty.

Friendly Fill-Ins: Week 22

Welcome to "Friendly Fill-Ins"! You can find the fill-ins here or at 15andmeowing.com each Thursday. The first two fill-ins are provided by my co-host, Ellen. The final two statements are offered by myself. We have posted a link so we can all share the completed fill-ins.

Here are my completed fill-ins for this week:

1. My favorite store is a bookstore. I especially love a bookstore that is independent, or even a small chain that is unique to an area or region. I love Schuler’s Books in Michigan, and there have been many small bookstores that I have enjoyed visiting.

2. An unanswered prayer I am thankful for is wanting to stay in Colorado when I was 20, when I had to move back to Illinois. Illinois was not what I wanted. I do believe things happen for reasons, though. Back in Illinois, my friendship with Bill grew, we married, and have been together for over thirty-five years. We have been through a lot, but always together.

3. At Halloween, I am always very careful to keep all critters safe. I am especially sensitive to the safety needs of black cats. However, trick-or-treaters, scary costumes and sounds, chocolate and other people treats are all potentially serious threats to critters. We need to make sure that our furkids have a fun, safe holiday, too.

4. believe in the supernatural, because there is so much unknown to man. I believe the universe consists of infinite complex mysteries. Some of these mysteries are natural phenomena within the heavens and the earth. Some mysteries, however, are of a more intangible, spiritual nature, such as angels. I firmly believe in angels and feel a deep connection to them. Of course, some say there are other unexplained, supernatural beings, too. Sometime I will share my Great-Aunt Rachel's story.

~Grab some Halloween fun...but, be very careful!~

It is Definitely Autumn

Football is back.

The weather is cooler.

Animals are planning for Winter.

Trees are changing.

As they say, "It's always something."
