  1. I have always loved Johnny Cash. I saw him in concert many times, even before he and June were married and his backup singers were the Statler Brothers.
    Happy birthday to Johnny!

    1. Bill reminded me it is Johnny's birthday. We are big fans. He has always been one of Bill's biggest musical influences.

    1. Thanks, Dana. We grew up with Johnny Cash. He was a pioneer in many ways. There just aren't many like him left (Willie & Merle). Country music isn't the same now as then.

  3. I love his song "Hurt" in tribute to his wife.

    1. We do, too. He did it far better than the original. He & June are role models for strong marriage. We miss them both.

  5. Dear McGuffy Ann, I've heard few of Johnny Cash's songs and this wasn't one of them. So I'm so glad you've posted this video and I could listen to the words. A powerful message from a man who seems so concerned about the plight of others. Thank you. Peace.

    1. This is my very favourite Cash song. It speaks truth, and of who he was.

  6. If only people had listened to him ... we should all still be wearing black. Nothing seems to have changed and if anything it is worse. I didn't grow up loving country music so I missed Johnny when he was still performing ... I have listened to his music since and have a great respect for him. Thanks for sharing ...

    1. You know how we feel about him. Bill & I both grew up listening to him. I love this song; it makes me cry. He wrote from the heart & soul, and delivered it with feeling.

  7. Another institution! Always loved his music. So many of the good performers are gone now - those that actually had beautiful voices and could deliver a song.

  10. Happy Birthday Johnny!
Although I have never been a country music fan I have always loved Johnny Cash's music. I would loved to have seen him and June in concert but the opportunity never came. He will never be forgotten.
