Lines

I walked a fine line.

The old fence
casting long shadows,
plunging things into
cold darkness.
But you were there,
in the darkness;
I saw you, across
the deep, icy chasm.
You were standing
alone, hands on hips,
as if to ask where
I had been, what
took me so long
to find you.

  1. I love the photo and the poem you wrote to it. Sometimes in the shadows we find just what we need, don't we? Especially if we squint our eyes and look real hard.....

  2. That is such a nice picture. Your poem reminds me of myself waiting for my outside cats to get their butts home. Take care.

  11. Great write. Love the use of light and shade, the find and hide, the contrast. So evocative.

  12. I absolutely loved this. The play on words and the imagery that you evoke are wonderful. It took me back to all those times as a child when I walked that fine line and returned home to those same words!

Your imagery is beautiful, both in words and with your camera! You matched the two, so well.

  13. This is an awesome poem and could mean so many things to so many people. That is what is so special about your poetry ... you speak to people without them knowing they are being spoken to. This is good, no two ways about it!

  23. There is an enviable combination of wistful and wary here, and the smooth and well-built construction of the piece is simply a bonus. Fine, fine stuff.

  26. Well done, McGuffy. Beginning with the shadows themselves, then moving on to what hides within the shadows... this is a prelude to something really special, methinks. Glad I read you today... Peace, Amy

  27. Sometimes people pot up their own fences which are hard to see over - or through...

  28. Nice, Ms. Mac ~~ I know the one standing across was as happy in your poet finding him or her as the poet was in the finding. I am like Sharp Little above, I hope this is the way my reunion with Adi (beagle dog, my buddy girl) will be when I get to Heaven.
