Chloe Jo's Plan

Chloe Jo finally has a plan. We got the test results from the University of Minnesota Veterinary lab. Chloe Jo definitely had a type of stone that will come back, sooner or later. This confirms what we already suspected. However, we are changing her diet in hope of minimizing, if not preventing recurrence of stones. We will probably have to add a medication, as well. However, it is all in Chloe Jo's best interest. We all need her to be healthy, happy, and live a long life. Just ask anyone who knows her, including her Joey Joe.

I will keep you posted on Chloe Jo's progress. We will keep monitoring her kidneys and autoimmune issues. We are hoping that she takes to the new food easily, too. The first one was rejected by all of The Girls. Grizelda and Maggie will eat the same food, as a health precaution. There are two more diets that we can try, if necessary. If one of these is accepted by The Girls, it will help immensely. If not, we will have to come up with another plan.

Thank you all for your prayers, good thoughts and wishes, and your continued support. We appreciate it more than I can say. We believe it has helped, too. Hugs.

  2. It's so hard to get them to agree on a new food. A man here in the park just gave me a box of cat food that he no longer needs (I didn't even want to ask why) so we're experimenting with other foods at no cost and finding out what they will and will not tolerate. It's nice to have some options in case we can't find the one "magic" food that is preferred. Good luck with the new diet.

  7. Purrs and paws crossed for her as you go forward with her treatment plan.

Regarding getting her to accept the new food: Can you tempt her by sprinkling something tasty on it, like FortiFlora or ground up whatever (kibble, treats, dried chicken, etc.)? That's how I got Derry, Mr. Kibblehead, onto canned food--by using a sprinkle of FortiFlora. In his case, the down side has been that he's very fussy and will eat only a couple of kinds of canned, one cr*ppy and one mediocre, and of course he won't eat it without the FortiFlora now! (Mind you, I use it like a seasoning, I don't use the entire package.)

So glad they were able to narrow down the stone.

    Praying she doesn't!

  14. Prayers for Chloe Jo . I agree that all on the same food is a good idea because they like to switch food.

  15. If it helps you at all, when my Angel Bobo had SIX kidney stones (at one time)...and had surgery to have them removed, he wasn't on special food and never had a stone again. Was this a kidney stone or a bladder stone? What kind of stone was it? Praying she doesn't have any return! xoxo

    1. The vet said multiple stones are often easier, because they can often pass them. Chloe Jo had one huge one, so there was no way she could she pass it. She also has some kidney involvement.
We have had cats and dogs in the past with kidney issues, and some with bladder stones. None as young as Chloe Jo. She has extensive autoimmune problems that make everything worse.

  18. So hoping that the girls will find one of the new menu options tasty, I know it's hard when they don't understand why you are changing things up. You take such good care of your furkids, and I know you will find a way to make it work for Chloe Jo, so she can continue to live healthy, happy life!
