Unspoken

Things said and unsaid,
both raw and painful.
Scars ran deep,
wounds beneath
never able to heal.
Things could never
be undone;
compromise and tolerance
worn far too thin.
Defeat was now
too heavy to bear,
even together.
Walking away,
time and silence
swallowed their leftover
unspoken words.

  1. it is more the unspoken words for me that scare me...at least when spoken they are out on the table to be dealt with...its hard too, the end of things...but if there really is no hope, then at least you can walk away knowing you tried...

  4. A very heart wrenching poem that goes deep in the soul. I agree, the words left unspoken are sad indeed.

  5. Poignant and sad. We wound with words, and we can wound with silences, too.
