Cobblestone and asphalt compete
with cracked, dirty city street.
The train rumbles overhead,
while yawning passengers yearn for their bed.
From suburbs to city, the daily commute;
some dressed down while some in suit.
Days into years the same several miles,
the same tired faces void of same smiles.

  1. Nice poem about the rat race. I like Lilly Tomlin's quote.
Life has kind of become a rat race for me too only the comute is from home to the barn. hehe.
    Have a beautiful day.

  2. I am yearning for my bed today as well. Nice piece, McGuffy Ann.

  3. Excellent! That pretty much sums up my commute every day. Fortunately, after 12+ years of riding the commuter train, I've actually made some friends amongst my fellow commuters. :)

  4. Of course this capture is awesome, but your words paint a true commuting little poem!

  5. Excellent interpretation of the quote. The last time I was in New York (more than 30 years ago) I remember how Tom remarked that not one person on the street had a smile of their face. Thanks, Annie, for joining us for our blogoversary and for your kind words. XOCK, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo and love and hugs, Janet

  6. Well done. I am so glad I don't have to commute.

  7. great quote, and so true. I am so happy that I left the rat race!!! Much more content at the end of the day being here at home and serving my family, then when I was just a nobody in a big job.

  8. That is what the rat race is like...even if we don't commute. It's the sameness of the days that is so burdensome. You have conveyed that so well. Thank you for linking to In Other Words...I was getting lonely. :)

  9. Beautiful poem and picture! I am glad I stepped out of the rat race of daily commuting..In my case, I had to drive 35-45 minutes(depending on traffic) to a downtown remote parking area..I had to leave my car at the gated parking lot there, and take a 15 minute bus ride into work..Needless to say, I made my way to work as a zombie, because I had punch in by 0545:-/

  10. Hmm, yeah, the rat race - unfortunately for most of us a reality... Great poem, Annie.

Thanks for your continuous support of s~A(R)T~urday!
