Noose

Restrained, an invisible noose
drawn tight around my heart.
I strained at it, trying to withstand.
I ignored it, trying to go on.
It remained a force beyond my control,
demanding to be reckoned with.
I sifted through memories, moments
caught silently in time, tainted
with lies and broken promises.
Realizing there is nothing left
to hold onto...
I let go.

  5. Another powerful and emotional poem! And the is perfect. It is strange that we often hold onto what is no longer a part of us like the phantom pain of a severed limb. Thank you for sharing your heart at In Other Words.

  15. Letting go is what everyone else is speaking of and so will I. Hardest thing I have ever done.
