Issues

Please bear with me. I am having some technical issues. I am working on it, but these things take time. Our PC is old and fragile. My netbook is fighting with the Windows 10 update. I do not want it, but it seems to be imposing itself on us. Whenever I try to update other apps, Windows 10 suddenly tries to sneak in and download itself. I did not sign up for it and do not want it on these older computers.

Please be patient with me. I know many of you have had computer issues, too. It seems to be my turn in the proverbial barrel. Hopefully, I will be able to get through this soon. I do have much to say.

Bill was home for a few days but had a bug that he picked up out west. He saw the doctor, and is back on the road, now. Stella is off on a most excellent adventure. I will be away for a few days, at the end of the month. George is four months old, and getting ready for a "major procedure". There is a lot going on!

However, until I can get this worked out, I may seem a bit scarce. I am working on a way to post or at least comment on your wonderful posts. As I am able to, I will. Thanks for your understanding.

In the words of the colourful Rosanne Rosannadanna, "It's always something."

    1. It is very frustrating. I love my netbook and really prefer it to the PC. It is easy and comfortable to use. Until now. *sigh*

  2. Oh goodness, I totally understand what you're going through. My hubby installed Windows 10 at work (drove him nuts) and he came home and installed it on our home computer, double trouble, but apparently it's a must with signing on and he must include all his working computers (I hate hi-tech stuff sometimes) thankfully so far my laptop can stay unchanged! For now. Hang in there all will work out eventually!

    1. I was told that Microsoft is pushing Windows 10. Their goal is to only have Windows 10 in use. I have been quite happy with Windows 7...until now.

  3. I do not want WIN 10 either. To disable the update go into your security window updates and search for KB 3035583 and uninstall it. Be aware that MS will continue to look to see if that is in your updates each month. You may have to do this more than once. But you can get rid of that update. I hate MS sometimes. I think we should be allowed to opt in and not have to opt out.

    1. Believe it or not, I did that. I even hid Windows 10 and opted to choose the updates myself. Nothing worked.

I consulted with the Geek Squad and ran through it with them. They searched for updates and said, "See? it is hidden." I said, "I know. Now try to update the ones I want, that it shows." They did, and sure enough, it started to download Windows 10! They stopped it and were shocked. They had not seen this before.

I wouldn't mind Windows 10 if I knew my computer could handle it. My fear is that as slow and outdated as it is (by the Computer World's standards), it would crash. They agreed; it might.

  4. Computers are a blessing and a curse....depending on the current situation they put you in. We just switched to Windows 10, but have newer computers and there wasn't too much of a learning curve...at least not that I've noticed.

    1. I think that is where we are headed: new computer(s). I am sure I will figure it out as I go. Everything is "new" until you get used to it. I figured it out before; I will again. I just dislike being forced into it.

  5. Here's a big (HUG) for you Annie. That Window 10 is a beast it seems.
    Take care.

    1. Forcing it upon consumers is just wrong. It has crashed many computers, including those who ignored it or declined. *sigh*

  6. Bless your heart, hope you get through your computer trouble.

If mine dies I will just be gone...not buying another.

    Have a great weekend.

    1. Thanks, Gail. We just got new smart phones, out of necessity. Timing is everything. *sigh* I use the PC for household things, taxes, Bill's paperwork, medical files, etc. I mostly used the netbook for my personal things. I'm not sure we could totally go without. Technology is supposed to make life easier...right? Not necessarily so.

    1. Beware. I ignored it, too. Now it is stalking me, trying to wipe out my computer. And it doesn't take "no" for an answer.

  8. Having spent lots of time with computers in the shop, i get it. It is always something, usually something from Microsoft.

  9. Well, you know I have been on your end of things. I still have things that don't working right after updating the operating system on my MAC so I totally understand why you are fighting against downloading Windows 10. I can't wait to find out about Stella's adventure or find out about what you'll doing at the end of the month. Sending lots of hugs and love, Janet

  11. Techie stuff can be a bother. I haven't heard anything positive about Windows 10. Wonder what's up with it? Teddy and Jack say to tell George there is nothing to the procedure and will never miss what's missing.

  12. Indeed, with technology it IS always something. I've been trying to do some projects all day, and every single bit of technology seems to be failing me. oye.

  13. Computer issues are so annoying and inconvenient, I hope you get them resolved soon. Windows 10 is a nagging little brat, isn't it!
Soon George will be like Scooter....this is the most creative spay/neuter campaign I've ever seen: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iw1V--rp3ng

  14. M said she certainly understands where you are coming from. You have to set your priorities and stick with them. And there is nothing like computer problems to throw a wrinkle in all the plans. We battle Windows 10 also and our computer is getting older too., Fortunately, our son-in-law is a computer genius, so all we have to do is call him. Right now we're waiting for him to fix a problem we are having - hopefully this weekend.

  15. I hate techie problems! As if we don't have enough worries to deal with ordinary life, now we have all these electronic issues to deal with! Right now, all of my computers are happy...cross my fingers, knock on wood. I do have, however, have a very suspicious little box that pops up every now and then on the desktop- it says "error, something or other" and I click it off real fast thinking that will make it go away. LOL! I know it's just biding it's time.

  16. I've been having connectivity issues from hell since the beginning of September. I ended up dumping Century Link and getting Xfinity. I also got a new desktop computer (all in one) and a new notebook computer with the payout of my PTO from my old job. I was thinking it would be life in the fast lane, but noooooo. I'm going to have to take my modem to an Xfinity store tomorrow and swap it out, which will hopefully solve my problems. The one I have right now keeps resetting itself.
With the Windows 10 issue, if your netbook has 32 GB of memory or less, it's not going to be able to take Windows 10. I upgraded my new notebook to Windows 10 but the old one had 32 GB of memory and wasn't able to handle the download.
Overall, I like Windows 10 better than windows 8. It's more straightforward. No more of this sweeping to the top of the screen to get to the menu crap. It actually took me a while to remember that I didn't have to do that any more!

  17. Sorry your computers are throwing a temper tantrum, Annie.
For a comic relief, may I recommend some Weird Al, the song in the URL below, in particular? :)

    Peace :)
