St. Francis & the Animals

Today is "World Animal Day",
an international day of action
for animal rights and welfare.
This was first celebrated in 1931
by a group of ecologists in Italy.

They chose October 4th in honour
of the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi,
who is the patron saint of all animals.

Today we join in celebrating St. Francis
and all of the animals that he loved,
because we do, too.

  7. We are embarrassed that we are not celebrating this impawtant day. Our mom is so bad about keeping track of these dates. She has promised to do better next year. We have a St. Francis in our yard. May all the animals in your house be blessed. XOCK, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo and Janet

  10. I gave Cashew a yummy healthy kitty treat today, and I tried to give him extra hugs and cuddles. I got a few scratches: I don't think he "gets" the special day and he really isn't a hugger. LOL
but we love him still. :)
