Druthers

After visiting his special lady friends, Paul stretched out on his bed for an afternoon nap. It took a lot of work to be a proper gentleman in The Superior Retirement Home where he now lived.

As the day nurse came into the room with his afternoon medications, they exchanged knowing grins. Winking, she said to Paul, “You wouldn’t be so tired if you didn’t chase all of the lovely ladies here, Paul.”

Paul sighed, responding, “Oh, if I had my druthers, they would be chasing me.”

  2. Poor Paul was chasing but he didn't say he did any catching.

  3. Delightful story, Annie, this made me smile! I worked in a nursing home when I was much younger, and some of the older gentlemen did indeed work hard at charming the ladies! And like typical girls, the ladies would be so jealous of who received the most attention.

    1. Exactly. I did nursing home work as a teen. Paul is based on a real gentleman, who had his own share of stories.

  6. Sweet story well worth the wait! Paul is quite the dashing dude with his purple shoes and dapper hat. I think there are probably a few senior ladies just waiting for their chance to see that he gets his druthers. Thanks for sharing with In Other Words.

  7. Ah, the gentlemen in those places are outnumbered, so i'm sure the chasing is probably easier!
