Friendly Fill-ins: Week 25

Welcome to "Friendly Fill-Ins"! You can find the fill-ins here or at 15andmeowing.com each Thursday. The first two fill-ins are provided by my co-host, Ellen. The final two statements are offered by myself. We have posted a link so we can all share the completed fill-ins.

We thank you for joining us each week. Your participation is very important. Sharing with you and getting to know you better through your answers is what it is all about. Please remember to visit everyone on the list. Everyone likes visitors. Thank you!

Here are my completed fill-ins for this week:

1. The first thing I check when I go online is email. With Bill on the road all of the time, I check for emails from him and for him. I dump Spam, then answer emails. First are business related email, then are social emails. Of course, there are then blogging comments and posts to create, after that. I am not really into all of the varied other social media outlets, not that anything's wrong with that. I do not know how others do it all…or why.
I try to focus on putting all of myself in one place as much as I canI know, I am often called a purist, in that I always believe less is moreBut, to me, it really is

2. My signature dish is potato salad. Obviously, I have others, including others I like better. However, this seems to be what I am always asked to make for situations where you bring something. I created this from a few other recipes when I was just a newlywed, and it is still well-received a hundred years later. *wink*

3. My Halloween night is usually quietly spent answering the beck and call of trick-or-treaters. Then I spend time with Linus in the pumpkin patch. After that, I have a date with young Dr. Frankenstein and his sidekick Igor. When Bill is home, we do these things together, but he gets to answer the door.

4. Trick or treaters have changed so much from when I was a kid. They seem scarier now! There seems to be a lot more “tricks” played now, too. I use that term loosely, as it is not a trick if you are destroying property or hurting someone.

~May your Halloween be filled
with special surprises and treats!~

  1. These are great images, Annie. That white kitty at the top is beautiful. I love the kitty sitting on the pumpkin painting. I wish I could make art like that. Those ghost trick-or-treaters are too cute.

I agree with your #4. A trick is ringing the doorbell and running off or hiding behind the bushes, not throwing a rock through a window sort of thing.

It sounds like you have a nice Halloween evening planned. Have a blessed weekend!

    1. Thanks! I wish I was artsy, too. I do my best with words, and for that outlet I am thankful. I appreciate the beauty of the art that others share, though.

  3. Hi Ann - loving your fill-ins today.....I agree that things are WAY different now than they were in my day (87 years ago...haha) for Halloween. Still, I look forward to it each year like I was a kid again....maybe I really AM!

  4. Love all of your graphics especially the last one.

Great answers...love the Facebook comment. LOL!!

    I check e-mail first too.

Yummy on your potato salad. Mine always has too much mayo and I can never get the potatoes right. :( They are either too hard or too mushy.

  8. We love Halloween here....we decorate weeks ahead and Mom loves seeing the trick or treaters. She and Dad go outside and Dad wears his horses head and Mom has her witches hat on. They have a big bowl of goodies and love to see all the kids.

  9. Great answers! I love Young Frankenstein , Peter Boyle and Gene Wilder are so good in that. I have trouble trying to keep up with Twitter and Facebook, I do it for the blog, but I don't get to it daily. I love potato salad, that is my Mom's signature dish too. Have a great weekend! XO

  11. Your Halloween night sounds perfect! I hate thinking of the "tricks" kids are doing nowadays. I've only made potato salad less than a handful of times. There's always someone that's really good at it. I bet yours is delish. I love all these images!

  12. Great answers! You are right that trying to keep all the bases covered for emails and blogging is time-consuming. I like Facebook to keep in touch with family and friends who don't do the first two, but I don't spend time on Instagram, Twitter, or Pinterest, I think it could easily become a full-day obsession, and there is more to life! Your Halloween plans sound perfect to me, enjoy!

  15. We always enjoy your answes and count me in for the nip!

  16. Got to love the cat in the apron. When Suzanne and I were newlyweds, she was asked to bring complicated dishes to the family gatherings, things like casseroles, cakes, etc. My former sister-in-law was asked to open a can of corn and heat it up. My family had no confidence whatsoever in her abilities.
Thanks for hosting the Fill-ins and have a great week.

  17. I love the FB cat! A good potato salad is yummy!

  18. I love FB cat too and Chef Cat!!

My first thing is always email. Then my three blogs, then FB, then Yahoo.

I agree with you. Treaters have changed to the point that they aren't a lot of fun. How do I know when I don;t tend the door? I have been in other homes. Just all they want is candy.

My signature dish is actually meat loaf and I sure make a good one. If I say so myself.

My halloween night s very quiet. Too many many many years of 12 hour +OT rotation short work made it impossible to entertain kids. So the light stays off and I know they will get plenty of candy elsewhere. They are used to me being gone.

  19. My mom made great potato salad. I could never do as well as she did, so I do macaroni salad. I could have listed that along with my mac and cheese. I never look forward to Halloween. When Tom has been out of town, I don't do it. I just turn all the lights out. The really big teenagers frighten me. Sending you lots and lots of hugs and love, Janet p.s. As always, your memes cracked me up!

  20. Cute picture of the ghost doggies trick-or-treating.

  21. We always enjoy your fill in answers. The mom's signature dish is either lasagna or cheesecake.

  22. Not everyone can make a good potato salad, so hats off to you, Annie! Tracey's mom makes a good one, too. :)

Here's hoping your Halloween is peaceful, with lots more treats than tricks.

    Hugs!

  23. Thankfully no tricks in our neighborhood this year. I think the worst I have seen though is just some smashed pumpkins. Which isn't kind, but not that terrible since they will rot in another couple of days anyway. We were so busy this year, not only did I not have time to do a post, I missed the Great Pumpkin!!! :(
