Friendly Fill-ins: Week 84

We are happy you are here for another week of friendly sharing! As always, you can find the fill-ins here and at 15andmeowing.com each Thursday. On Fridays, we post the link for sharing. You are welcome to answer in the comments, but if you link up, more people can share.

I hope everyone had a wonderful week filled with good cheer. Bill’s sister and brother-in-law are visiting. They live about four hours away, so we have not seen them in a year. We have a lot of catching up to do! I will probably be offline for the weekend.

We had the computers thoroughly checked out and fine-tuned. They are clean, healthy, and in optimal condition. However, my Internet issues have become worse. I am still experiencing Wi-Fi issues. Comcast will be back out here today.

A good thing happened. "Hissy" made the LOL Home Page. Chloe Jo is such a fun cat. Her perpetual kitten-like purrsonality saves her, and often us. In case you missed it, here she is:

I hope you will join us for Sparks. It is open every Monday-Friday. Come, enjoy the inspiration. I love the uplifting posts that are being shared through Sparks! A mindset of positive energy can really make a difference in your life. It can also influence those around you.

I had fun with the fill-ins this week. I hope that you did. Holiday sharing is extra-special.

1. Snow is a necessary and beautiful part of the seasons. It can be dangerous, as many beautiful things in nature can be.

2. I hope that I can make some small difference in this world before I leave it. Ultimately, I believe that is our purpose here.

3. One holiday memory that I cherish is the Christmas Eve when Santa tapped on my window. I was amazed. It did get me to go to bed, though. My story "Sugar Plum" is based on that experience.

4. I always thought that Santa had magical powers because he was a saint. The story of St. Nicholas always impressed me, even as a Baptist kid. Saints are like superheroes.

Polar Plunge

As usual, the polar bears gathered for their annual “Winterfest”. Together, they celebrated the freezing water and subzero temperatures. However, the real fun was in trying to catch the silly humans doing the “Polar Bear Plunge”.

*A "polar bear plunge" is when people plunge into freezing cold water for "fun".

Fill-in Statements: Week 84

Each Thursday, my co-host, Ellen of 15andmeowing, and I provide Friendly Fill-In statements. On Friday, we post our answers with a link-up for you to join us with your own responses. We hope you will copy and answer these on your own blog, but remember to link up here. If you need help, please let us know. We look forward to your answers!

Also...please be aware that my Internet connection has actually gotten worse. While I can use Word to help prepare posts, I cannot comment or visit consistently. At times, the WiFi drops and I get an "Authentication Error". Sometimes it just hiccups or loses connection. Comcast will be coming out, again, but not until next Monday. Please bear with me. Thanks!

The Man in the Moon

This is still one of my favourite holiday commercials. Because it says something more than commercialism. It reminds us to reach out, even to those who seem far away. Show them that they are not alone, that someone cares. Show them that they matter.

Celebrating Maggie P.

Maggie came into my life just as she was meant to do. It was by accident that I found her. Full of life and cattitude, she helped me to heal after some sadness. You had to love Maggie, she insisted.

Maggie is a pedigreed Maine Coon, born to a top breeder. Her registration papers show her name as Magnolia Pearl, though her professional, "show" name was different (it was Annie, like mine). She is from the South, so she became Magnolia, a beautiful white flower. It is the tradition for a polydactyl Maine Coon to have a name with a P in it. We chose Pearl, in honour and tribute to Purrl, also a polydactyl. Purrl crossed The Bridge in 2008.

Maggie P, as CFA 2008-2009 Champion

Maggie is the 2008-2009 CFA Best Household Cat. Maggie could only be shown in the Household Pet division, as she is a polydactyl. Many Maine Coons have the natural polydactyly gene. Unfortunately, CFA cat shows frown on the gene, even though it occurs naturally in some breeds. At one time, almost half of all Maine coon cats were polydactyl.

We were able to see Maggie’s last two shows. The first time we met her, she charmed us as much as she did the judges. At just over a year old, she had spent her entire life in cat shows. She knew how to work people, and she knew we were smitten with her. We bonded with that wonderfully expressive face, the charm, and certainly the cattitude. We loved Maggie for who she was, and we still do.

At her last show, she had already wrapped up her Title. However, the rules specified that she go through the same steps as the other cats. That day, she was going through an elimination round when we arrived. As soon as Maggie saw us, she recognized us. She turned to the judge with her trademark diva expression and hissed at the judge. He immediately dismissed her for the day. It didn’t matter, she already had clinched the title: 2008-2009 CFA Best Household Cat, Midwest Region 6. Maggie officially was retired from show life and went to her forever Home with us.

Maggie had never seen a dog before. She met three that day. She was shocked and a bit concerned. She wanted to hide but never showed aggression. Within a day, she was following the dogs and talking to them. This is something that Maggie always does: talks…a lot.

Since that first day, Maggie has worked her way up from being the Rookie, to being the one with the most seniority. She has welcomed both Shelties, Stella and Kenzie, into the family. She loves dogs. She really helped Kenzie adjust, too. Maggie also has helped me raise many orphaned kittens and bunnies. Maggie has a very confident, calming, and nurturing way about her. Orphaned babies really respond to her.

Make no mistake, though, Maggie still is a diva. She is even more beautiful, inside and out. She knows she is beautiful and loves to be told. She is smart, sweet, silly, and she still has serious cattitude, too. She will go out of her way for attention, throwing things on the floor which always works! She has broken countless things over the years. But, we love her, just exactly as she is. Everyone loves Maggie. To know her is to love her. It is just that simple.

Today Maggie P. is ten years old. She has serious, chronic health issues, and she sleeps most of the time. Her heart is quite enlarged and continues to weaken. The growth in her throat/palate continues with its issues, too. These are things that Maggie has accepted, and we must, as well.

Maggie has lived a very full, and happy life. I don't think she would change a thing. She knows she is loved as unconditionally as she loves. Maggie P. has always been special, and as she ages, it becomes even more obvious.

~Happy Birthday, Maggie P.~
with love, always, from Mom & Dad,

It is my intent to post an inspirational thought each Monday. It is my weekly meditation, and perhaps can feed another’s spirit as well. I am often inspired by the positive energy of others.

The negative energy in the world has become thick and oppressive. Social media has become a part of this dark, negative storm. There is an obvious universal need for more positive energy. And, we can all be part of this affirmative change by sharing what inspires us.

I believe we are meant to be lights in this world. If we allow our light to shine, we can see where we are going. It is then that we can begin to truly see each other clearly. Together, we can light up the entire world!

I hope you will join us. Please link up a positive quote, poem, message, or thought. Add the Sparks badge to your post to invite others. Truly; the more, the merrier. Peace.

Friendly Fill-ins: Week 83

We are happy you are here for another week of friendly sharing! As always, you can find the fill-ins here and at 15andmeowing.com each Thursday. On Fridays, we post the link for sharing. You are welcome to answer in the comments, but if you link up, more people can share.

After being out again twice this week, we are hoping that Comcast has resolved our Internet connection issues. This has been going on for about seven months. I will be working on something, and suddenly I will have no connection. In a few seconds or minutes (it varies), it will come back. However, I will often lose drafts or whatever I was working on. When it is working, I try to get as much done as I can. But, that means I don’t get in as much visiting and commenting as I want to do. I am hoping they have finally figured it out and fixed it.

If you have visited Sparks, I hope it has inspired you. I greatly appreciate those who are adding their own Sparks. I find every post and every blogger inspiring. I really believe that these are actions that move towards peace. If you haven't joined Sparks yet, please do. Everyone is welcome.

The fill-ins took some thought this week. I will be by to read and comment. Eventually, I will get caught up. Thanks for your patience.

1. The best part of last week was putting up Christmas lights with Bill. The bushes and pine tree all have lights, now. Our lighted wreath is up around the stained-glass window. We also set up the Nativity with stable and wise men. This trucking route is working out much better than the past ones did. Home time for truckers does not come easy, but is appreciated.

2. The worst part of last week was losing more notes, drafts, and time to my increasingly more persistent wonky Internet connection. It takes so much time to re-do everything, that it leaves little time to post, visit, and enjoy it all.

3. Sorting and scanning old photos is a Winter project that I will be working on. There are so many special memories in these old pictures. I don't want to lose any of them.

4. A holiday gift that I always buy for someone is pet treats for their pets. I also get treats for the wildlife. I started these traditions years ago. It is a fun way to share the spirit of the season with furry friends, too.

~Wishing you all the beauty of the season.~

Time Out

Shared with:

*We interrupt this Wordless Wednesday to bring you this message...I am still having Internet connection issues, including numerous dropped signals. Comcast will be out yet again today, to "see if they can figure out what is wrong". They admit to seeing a lot of "errors". I am hoping this visit will completely resolve the errors and restore full service. This has been going on for over six months, intermittently. I know there are others who have had similar issues. I hope you will stay tuned. I appreciate it. Thanks!

Miss Phoebe's Shades

Recently, we got a small package in the mail. When we opened it, we were happy to see that it was Miss Phoebe's Traveling Shades! Wow! The girls were pretty excited to have their turn with these special shades. George and Clyde were unimpressed. "Girl stuff." They would not sit still for any of it.

Grizelda decided they were far too small. Bee was afraid they were way too big. Maggie fell asleep, so she ended up missing most of the fun. However, Chloe Jo was thrilled. She thought they made her just like Easy Rider. She absolutely loved the shades.

Easy Rider / Chloe Jo

Kenzie declined to wear what she felt was clearly cat accessories. However, Chloe Jo's best friend is Stella, so she tried on the shades. Suddenly, Stella was just like Joe Cool.

Thank you, Miss Ellen. We were very honoured to wear Miss Phoebe's shades. It was bittersweet to be able to use something that was special to her and to you. We appreciate being a part of the Phoebe's Traveling Shades Tour. The glasses have respectfully been passed on to the next participants.

Kitten Humour

Kitten Crazy Time,
with Simon's Cat

We can relate to Simon's cat. Yet, we love every minute of a kitten's "crazy time" because we know how precious kittenhood is, and how quickly it passes by. We know that every minute, every day, with our "furkids" is priceless. And, it all starts here.

I will be busy this weekend. When possible, I plan to visit and get caught up on blogging. It will take a couple of days, but I will be around. Enjoy your weekend. May it be filled with fun and some holiday magic!

Friendly Fill-ins: Week 82

We are happy you are here for another week of friendly sharing! As always, you can find the fill-ins here and at 15andmeowing.com each Thursday. On Fridays, we post the link for sharing. You are welcome to answer in the comments, but if you link up, more people can share.

I want to thank everyone who read, commented on, and shared their thoughts with me on my Giving Thanks series. I am pleased to say that I wrote a thankful post every day in November. Being a private person, this was not easy for me. I keep a lot of things inside, sharing mostly in my handwritten journal and personal writing. I really want to be able to share better, so, I am working on that. I should also be able to get back to my normal posting, visiting, and commenting, now.

We have had a week of very mild weather. I have not been wearing a coat or even a jacket! Long sleeves have been plenty warm for me. Squirrels have actually been digging up their acorns and walnuts. Of course, this will all be ending soon.

Winter is supposed to be back, in-full-force by Tuesday. We will be able to finish outdoor Christmas lights this weekend. It is time to stock up, hunker down, and go on auto-pilot. We readied the snow blower last weekend. We both got new hiking boots, warm and water-repellent. I have a good stack of books waiting to be read. Okay, Winter, let’s do this!

Please remember that Sparks is open from Monday, at 12:00 AM through Friday, at 11:59 PM. We have had great participation. The inspiration is a wonderful thing. Thank you to all who have added their own Sparks. Warm hugs.

Okay, here are my responses to the fill-ins. As always, this is a fun experience to share.

1. I can't believe Goody’s Headache Powder is still sold. It was introduced through a family business in 1936, out of North Carolina. Though rare here, I know it is still popular down South. Goody’s has a long history as a prominent sponsor of NASCAR. Richard Petty has been linked to Goody’s since 1977. I have not used this, but have always wondered how well it works. I am prone to migraines, which can be miserable!

2. I have heard many horror stories about experiences on Craigslist. I even knew one person who was put under “exotic services” by her nefarious boyfriend. That is very scary.

3. Going into December, the weather outside is predictably unpredictable. Weather is one thing that man cannot control. I believe these unusual mild conditions are just the proverbial calm before the storm. December snow is the best snow, especially on Christmas.

4. My current weakness is a mug of spiced chai tea, a good book, and minions. It is fun to watch them play and learn new things. Then, they climb up with me and sleep while I read.

~Brew up something special & enjoy!~
