Friendly Fill-ins: Week 43

Welcome to "Friendly Fill-Ins: Week 43"!  Can you believe it?! You can find the fill-ins here and at 15andmeowing.com each Thursday to give you time to answer. The first two fill-ins are provided by my co-host, the wonderful Ms. Ellen. The final two statements are offered by myself. We post the linky with our completed fill-ins every Friday.

We do appreciate your participation each week. You make this a fun weekly event for everyone. Please remember to continue to visit everyone on the list. We all like visitors, especially when they become friends!

Thank you for your prayers and well wishes for Maggie. She would thank you with a head butt and a good kneading, if she could. She is just like that. So imagine the Yeti hugging you. That's our Maggie.

Okay...here are my completed fill-ins for this week:

1. My favorite herb or spice is subject to what I am preparingBill gave me a big spice cabinet when we got engaged thirty-six years ago. We still use it and keep it filled. Now, we grow herbs, tooI use certain spices, herbs, and ingredients in particular dishes, or they just are not right. All ingredients are important

2. An herb or spice I dislike is anything artificial or chemical, disguised as a spice. As of 1998, MSG is no longer considered a spice. While it is found naturally in some foods (such as tomatoes and cheese), it is actually a chemical compound. But, I also am not crazy about the overuse of salt. I prefer a variety of other spices and herbs; even their aromas can be intoxicating.

3. Lately, I have been working on getting organized and ready for the April A-Z Blogging Challenge. I plan to share some meaningful things, again. April is Poetry Month, and I will share it in a different way this year.

4. This Winter was mild and wet. We had a lot of rain, some freezing rain, very little snow. March came in like a lion, though. We had thunderstorms with heavy rain, which switched over to an icy rain/snow mix. You know what Yogi Berra said: “It ain’t over ‘til it’s over.”

May your recipe be one of success!

Now, it's your turn. Please link up with us here. Or, you can answer in the comments

  1. Chemical and artificial flavors disguised as spices are awful.

Since i've been out of town, i have been behind on blogs and had no clue about Maggie, she will be in my prayers.

    1. Thanks, Mimi. We are worried. She is part of me. She loves rescue work, too.

  2. Oh I love your answers today....and ESPECIALLY love that last graphic - it absolutely is hilarious! The chicken going round and round...tee hee. I want to tell you that I'm sending prayers for Maggie too - I totally "get" how it effects us when our "heart cat" is in a tenuous situation with health - it reaches down inside us and makes us face things we'd rather not. Sending you hugs too!

Love, Pam, Angel Sam and Teddy too

    1. Thanks, Pam. Chloe Jo is my perpetual squeaky wheel, my BabyCat. She will never mature. I love her because she needs it. She needs Me. But, Maggie...I need HER. HUGS.

  4. Totally enjoyed your Fill-ins today and your pictures with captions cracked me up! Excited to see what you are going to do with April Poetry Month! Good Morning, Annie! Still sending prayers to Maggie and you!

  5. I agree with you on the herbs and spices--they're all good as long as they fit the dish and they're not artificial. I'm not too sure about the chicken & frog soup the cat is making in that last picture though!

    1. I hope that chicken-frog soup is spiced right!

  6. As always, your answers are fantastic! My herb and spice collection is slowly growing and growing, and I think a spice cabinet sounds perfect. And I really appreciate your answer to #2, as I am the same way about all of those unnatural spices. I, too, am really trying to get organized these days. And our winters sound like they were very similar - just all over the place! Thank you for always hosting this fun challenge!

  7. Cooking with herbs and if available fresh herbs is the best! April A-Z challenge, huh? Good luck with that.

  8. Great answers! I try to avoid MSG because I think I am allergic to it. I can't believe how itchy I get after I have it. I see we have both been working on the A-Z challenge, I always look forward to that. Great kitty photo choices, I don't know how you find such good ones. Have a nice weekend! XO

  9. I don't cook a lot, but I love dishes that have a nice mix of spices, like the food at a local Indian restaurant. I will keep Maggie in my prayers.

  10. I love your answers! I'm the same way about switching up witch herb or spice I favor dependent on what I'm cooking at the time. :) And YES to disliking any chemical/artificial thing that's trying to pass itself off as a spice.

I'll definitely be keeping Maggie in my thoughts and prayers!

  11. I'm sorry to hear about Maggie and will definitely keep her in my thoughts. Great answers to the fill-ins. I remember after first getting married (30 years ago!), I started to learn to cook and became obsessed with spices. I was over the moon when I got a spice rack. Now my spices are just in a cupboard, Speaking of which, I love that picture of the cat in the cupboard sniffin' the spices. :)

  12. I love my fresh basil, but I do love garlic the best. :)

That is awesome you grow most of your spices.

Love all of your answers and LOVE your last photo.

    Thanks for sharing.

  13. We always love the memes you find! I'm not a big spice person ... I wish I knew more about how to use them. Instead, I use salt to season - which isn't the same as using spices and herbs at all! My other problem is that I know they have a rather short shelf-life, so it seems like a waste of money with how often I cook ... but I should choose a couple and go with those.

    1. Actually, most spices don't have a really short shelf life. I recommend small containers, though, until you know what you like.

  16. THOSE PICTURES!!!!! What perfect ones! I loved them all!!!

    1. My favorite spice is actually pepper. If someone challenged me, I would say nutmeg.

    2. A spice I truly dislike is paprika. In Europe, I had a meat that had a lot of red sauce on it. It tasted horrid and it made me sick. Turned out to be a huge amount of paprika in it. It has ruined me for ever having it again.

    3. Lately I have been working on reducing clutter in drawers and closets.

    4. This winter is raining raining raining, cold, windy, raining, foggy, raining, bitter cold.

    1. I like pepper, too. More than I do salt. I like paprika, too. I married a Hungarian.
      De-cluttering. It seems endless, sometimes.
Ours has been mild. I fear a hot Summer. thanks for coming by. HUGS.

  17. I hope that Maggie feels better very soon.

I love all the kitty pics, but the one with the chickens in the pot is the funniest. :)

    Have a blessed weekend!

  18. Mom got rid of most of her herbs and spices when we had the Great Kitchen Disaster so she's slowly building her collection up again. As always, super graphics!

  19. That first meme CRACKED me up, Annie. We're praying for her big time, and would love a Yeti hug. :)

We're not fans of MSG, either. It gives me a wicked headache, so it's on my avoid list, for sure.

    Hugs to you, dear pal.

  20. Annie, Well...I'm late visiting and linking up but I did it! DD#2 grows herbs and I'd like to get started doing it. Perhaps next year I can begin. We just aren't in a good place to do much of this sort of thing and I'm praying that we'll be in a new home before this year ends. I'll be looking forward to your A-Z Challenge posts! Have an awesome weekend!

  21. March came in like a lion here too...we probably got the same storms you did. Now it's cold again...but going to warm up in a few days. This time of year the weather is always a roller coaster.

Good luck with the A-Z challenge!

  22. I love the mix of Chai!! It's sweet but also a bit spicy and I love that combination. So I am going to skip my own post this weekend - so that I can work on fixing everything. and hopefully I will back in working form next week! :)
