Anticipation

We can never know about the days to come
But we think about them anyway, yay
And I wonder if I'm really with you now
Or just chasin' after some finer day

Anticipation, anticipation
Is makin' me late
Is keepin' me waitin'

And I tell you how easy it feels to be with you
And how right your arms feel around me
But I, I rehearsed those lines just late last night
When I was thinkin' about how right tonight might be

Anticipation, anticipation
Is makin' me late
Is keepin' me waitin'

And tomorrow we might not be together
I'm no prophet and I don't know nature's ways
So I'll try and see into your eyes right now

And stay right here 'cause these are the good old days
And stay right here 'cause these are the good old days

(These are the good old days)
(These are the good old days)
(These are the good old days)
(These are…..the good old days)

~Carly Simon

Carly Simon songs often speak to me. This song made an impression on me in my youth, but it has even more meaning for me as I age. So much of Life is spent in anticipation, when in reality we are living the good old days right now. With age comes wisdom.

  1. I like this song. It is a nice song. It also reminds me of the old ketchup commercials where the folks are waiting for the ketchup to come out of the glass bottles. :)
    Have a blessed day.

  4. This is why it's important to enjoy what the day brings, even if it's mostly a looking forward to something else day. The looking forward part is so much fun, too!

  5. Oh wow--that brought back some memories. Great song and yes---it has different meaning for me now in my 50's than it did when I was younger. Thanks for sharing. I am excited to see all these people doing the A to Z challenge and will follow along even if I am not doing it this time.

    1. It was one of Carly's early songs. I have always loved it, though. Tune in for Letter B on Monday. It may be my favourite song! HUGS.

  8. Yes... love this song. Carly Simon was big for me. Loved her tunes. My favorite song is The Right Thing to Do... it was "our song" when CH and I were dating and got engaged... :) I also like No Secrets. I am going to love your A to Z!

  9. That's a great one to start off your A-Z Challenge, Annie. I know the song, but, somehow, seeing the lyrics in print somehow made them even more special.

Hope all is well. Have a great Saturday, dear friend!

  10. Seeing the lyrics written out makes me think of all the time I spent wishing to be older when I was younger, and now I can't believe I wished all that carefree time away!
