Kaleidoscope of Sound: I

Bill said, "This is probably my favorite song because it's so personally relative. The simple melody is haunting, especially during the violin and steel guitar lead. Merle was a great singer, surrounded by great musicians. RIP Merle."

"If I Could Only Fly"
Merle Haggard

  1. I can see why this song resonate so deeply for Bill on a personal level. Being on the road and away from home must be difficult and lonely at time.
I always go check biographies on the web and I find interesting facts about the artist featured on your Kaleidoscope A-to Z .

    Thanks for the video.

    1. Bill said, "The steel guitar lays flat. It has two head-stocks, with between 10-14 strings on each neck. The player sits over it. He picks the strings with one hand, and uses a steel slide with the other hand. While he is playing the strings, he controls levers underneath the steel guitar with his knees and feet to accent certain notes. Because of the difficulty of playing this, there are very few people left in the industry who play the steel guitar. Okay, there may be a quiz when my list is complete!"
