One Year of Friendly Fill-ins: Week 52!

Welcome to "Friendly Fill-Ins: Week 52"!  It has been a year already! Thank you for being a part of this friendly sharing every week. You have made it a success. As always, you can find the fill-ins here and at 15andmeowing.com each Thursday. We will continue to post the linky every Friday. The first two fill-ins are always provided by Ellen. The final two statements are offered by myself.

The A-Z Challenge is over for another year. I think it was fun for most everyone. I have a theme for next year, so will work on that in the coming months. I hope to have it completely ready when A-Z begins. It is a goal!

Most A-Z participants will be posting their final 2017 A-Z post on Monday, May 8. I will! It is to be a “Reflections” post. I look forward to reading about how everyone feels about their posted accomplishments, insights, and hear their final thoughts.

Please tune in on Tuesday, May 9, for a very special guest post here at McGuffy's Reader. It was inspired by my A-Z theme. I am pretty excited about this post, too. I think you will enjoy it! Please be sure to leave comments.

Okay, here are my completed fill-ins:

1. We have no landline. We have not had a “home phone” for many years. We never used it after we got "mobile" phones, so we don’t miss it. There are so many ways to keep batteries charged, now. Even in a storm, we have cell power.

2. My most treasured piece of jewelry is my wedding ring. It is custom-made from our original three-ring set. Along with it, I have a very special anniversary ring. I wear these every day. I think rings are special and very symbolic. "Love is a circle; no beginning, no end." ~unknown

3. This year, I have learned better ways to organize what I write and keep in journals. This is an ongoing process, but a necessary one. Much of my writing is from journaled thoughts, memories, and moments. If it is ever to be processed to be shared, it has to be sensible in some way. Or, when I am gone, it will be like reading Poe. (Actually, that would be amazing!)

4. I would like to completely finish landscaping the yard before this year is over. We have been making permanent changes in the layout and design of the flower beds and property lines for a couple of years. The plants are mostly perennials, now. It needs to be made "ready".

~Thanks for coming! Naptime!~

Now, it's your turn. Please link up with us here. Or, you can answer in the comments

  1. I had such fun doing the A to Z Challenge. It was my first year participating, and I will certainly be doing it again next year. I also already have some goals set for next year's challenge, some of them a bit daunting, but I hope to tackle them nonetheless!

And, of course, I really enjoyed reading your fill-ins. I know the struggles of trying organize journals, but it sounds like you're doing much better at it than myself. My random thoughts and writings seem to be all over the place. Oh, and for the record, I love Poe's works!

P.S. You always choose the best images for your posts!

    1. We are happy you are a part of this. I enjoyed your A-Z, too!
My journals are an ongoing project! I love Poe, too. I could do worse than be like him. We are both tormented in our writing, though. My journals confirm that.

  3. Best wishes to you on organizing your writing. That is something that I need to do with my family history research. Anybody would be totally lost coming in behind me as it stands right now.

Thank you for the reminder about the Reflections post. I don't have the brain power at the moment to write it. I hope I don't end up forgetting to do it. I've been spending more time watching and trying to photograph birds than thinking about post writing lately.

Have fun with your landscaping. :)
    Have a blessed weekend.

    1. No...landscaping is hard. We are moving things around, to make it less "work". There is also a lot of mulching, to keep weeds at bay. No rest for the weary. Have fun with your camera! I hope to get some of that in, too.

    2. Sure, it is hard work, but just think of how beautiful it will be when you're all done and the sense of accomplishment you'll have. Looking forward to the beautiful flowers makes fun out of the hard work. I love doing yard work. My body has other ideas about it, but the part of me in charge of what those parts of the body do, really loves it. :)

I have had a blast with my camera the last few days taking bird pictures. I got a bluejay today! I have posted it on Instagram and will be posting it on McClendon Villa in a little while. At least, that is the plan.
      Have a blessed weekend. :)

  4. Annie,

We don't have a "landline", either. But, we do have a home phone but it's VoIP. Many years ago as a well to reduce our cost we went this route with Vonage which was considerably less expensive vs Bell then several years ago we slash our low monthly VoIP bill drastically by switching to Magic Jack which averages less than $3 per month. That's dirt cheap, huh? Of course, we primarily use our cell phones for all calls because over the years cell planes have gotten better, too. Now we have unlimited calling/texting which is awesome! I have to agree with Menagerie Mom, you always have the best graphics. :) Thanks for hosting. I'm finally back with FF this week! Have a good weekend, dear friend.

    1. I recommend journaling. It helps you sort thoughts without offending others. It also creates fodder for writing pieces: essay, musing, short story, poem...and you have a record to pass down, if you want to.

  7. I journal every day... mostly about things I am thankful for.
    Looking forward to May 9th!

  8. What great fill-ins....I see we both have favorite wedding related jewelry! I've kept journals for years when we take a trip of any kind - short or long - I record it all, but daily journals are something I TRIED to do and didn't succeed with. Thanks for a great year of filling in - I've learned a lot about my old friends and made a lot of NEW ones too!

    Hugs, Pam

  9. Thank you for being such a great fill-in partner, here's to many more years of fill-ins. Nice answers, your rings sound pretty and very special. Unfortunately, our wedding rings are too small for us now so I bought some cheap ones to wear now. I am glad you are getting your writing organized, everything you write is wonderful. Good luck with the yard work. Have a nice weekend! XO

    1. Ellen, you are wonderful. We created the ring for me out of our three rings. They were constantly going in for repairs, so after ten years, we had one for me created, and got Bill a sturdier one. We have had these for 26 years, now. The anniversary ring was given to me at our 20th. I have a second anniversary ring that was given to me for our 30th; I wear it on special occasions. HUGS!

  16. Congratulations on one year! I journaled for a little while YEARS ago ... but I did more writing than living. And I didn't treat myself very nicely in my writing either. Maybe it's time to try again?

  17. A year? Really? Can't believe it time is flying! A to Z is always a challenge and one I enjoy. I plan to do the posts early but as usual I will write the day it is posted. Discipline...I need discipline! Closest thing to a journal for me would be here and at Day of Grace.

  18. Congratulations on one year of fill-ins. it seems to have zipped right by. I have wanted to get rid of our landline forever, but it is packaged with our cable and internet, so Tom says it is cheaper to keep it. Your rings sound wonderful and special. Hope you are feeling well today. Sending more hugs, love and prayers, Janet

  19. We have a portable charger than can charge my phone and Suzanne's at the same time. We can also charge them in the car. If they ever create a cell phone that you can plug a fax machine into, there will be little need for landlines. Have a great day.

  20. I still have landline phones in my house because of the business. If for some reason my husband can't hear his cell phone ring because of tractor noise, the house phone picks up the missed call and rings home so I can answer his calls or they can leave a message on the phone. I own a basic cell phone and have not updated to a smart phone yet.

I'm sending some get well wishes, prayers and hugs too.
PS I love that you grow cats in pots, lol.

    Hugs, Julia

  23. I am sorry, but I didn't get around to doing the fill ins this week. Love your answers, here are mine:
Landline - what is that? I haven't had one since 2005 when I left Switzerland
Jewellry - yes, also my very special wedding and engagement bands, as well as the David designed 'surfing witch' necklace
I have learnt - hmm, create more, blog less?
Before the end of the year I would like to have some kind of online income/revenue, but I fear I won't have/make the time needed for it.
