Friendly Fill-ins: Week 56

We are happy you are here for another week of friendly sharing! As always, you can find the fill-ins here and at 15andmeowing.com each Thursday. On Fridays, we post the linky for sharing. The first two fill-ins are always provided by Ellen. The final two statements are offered by myself. You are welcome to answer in the comments, but if you link up, even more people can share!

Thank you to all who stopped by my “58 Things” post and wishing me a happy birthday. It was nice to have Bill come home, too. He brought flowers and strawberries! It does not take much to make me happy. The little things matter to me.

Bill is winding down his A-Z song posts, too. He has had fun and is glad many of you seemed to, as well. He will finish off commenting this weekend and then do a Reflection post. He would like to thank all who took the A-Z journey with him. I thank you, too.

I am finally getting back into a blogging routine. I am also getting back to answering comments on my blog. When things get hectic, commenting falls through the cracks. Please make sure your email address is linked to your profile. If it is, I can respond to you that way, too. Thank you for visiting and commenting here. It does work two ways!

Enjoy your weekend doing something you love, with your loved ones!

Here are my completed fill-ins:

1. A law I would like to see passed is making a mandatory National Registry for all animal abusers. This is slowly becoming a reality in some areas, in some states. However, it needs to be a National Registry, and it needs to be fully enforced everywhere.

2. My favorite card game is Spades or Gin Rummy. I liked to play Crazy 8 and Go Fish when I was a kid. However, my very favourite card game when I was a kid was Authors. I loved that game and actually wore it out!

3. With Summer unofficially here I wake up at 4:30 AM. The birds all start singing outside my window about that time. Of course, that is Chloe Jo and George’s wake-up call. They start trying to convince me the birds are right: I should be up. Chloe Jo likes to wake me up by repeatedly tapping me on my face. George just dives onto me.

4. A favourite Summer memory is my first camping trip to Galveston. I was 11. I had grown up on the shore of Chicago’s Lake Michigan (1960s). This was a very different kind of beach than that, especially when I found a baby shark! It was dead, but I named it Mack and insisted on burying it. That Summer, I learned many things about nature there, including hermit crabs, jellyfish, Portuguese Man O’War, along with many amazing fish. It is one thing to see these at the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago and yet another to actually be at the beach with them!

~Always remember to play nice!~

Now, it's your turn. Please link up with us here. Or, you can answer in the comments.

    1. Oh, you missed a good game! It is still available. I think there is an updated version, now. Galveston...oh, Galveston. I love those memories. Hugs.

  2. Ah ha! No surprise we had similar answers for #1 - and I loved your favorite summer memory. Of course as I ALWAYS do - I love your graphics - they are perfectly suited to your responses!! Happy Friday!

  3. When we sleep with the windows open, the birds wake us early, too. It's okay, i'm mostly an early bird.

    1. I am definitely an Early Bird. I always have been. But, Chloe Jo. Really?

  4. I agree that we need a way to keep track of animal abusers. I haven't played cards in years but used to love crazy 8s. Have a good day!

  5. I wake up at 5:00am to go to the barn and I thought it was early. Haha. And I'm looking forward to be retired so I can sleep in. I never seem to get enough sleep. As a matter of fact, I'm sleepy now...and need a nap.

The eagles have a very sharp call in the early morning when I have my window opened. I don't need an alarm clock.

I play free cell , a computer app that came with my MacBook Pro. At first I was very slow, but now I'm pretty fast at solving the game.

I wish you a great day. Smiles & hugs

    1. I am usually up by 5:00, too. Chloe Jo and her bird friends say otherwise. In the Winter, I may push it until 5:30 or 6:00.
I love the Eagles shrill call. We have them here, but usually they stay away from the busy lakes in the Summer. In Spring and Fall we can hear and see them. UP North, they are more visible. *sigh*
I have no idea what Free Cell is about...but, it is popular! It is good to have something to relax you and pass time. Some of those games that I have tried just make me tense!
Hugs, my friend. Have a great day! XO

  6. Great answers, especially #1. I wake up around 4:30, but not because of the birds. The cats think it's a good time to get the early bird breakfast special (no pun intended). Have a great weekend!

  7. What a great answer for #1. There certainly should be such a registry. And I loved Go Fish as a child. Those were the days! I also like to get up early, when the rest of the world is still asleep. I usually wait until 5 or 5:30 am, though. Thank you for hosting this challenge. I always look forward to it! (P.S. I have been trying to link my email directly to my blog or profile, but I have far from tech savvy and am still working on figuring it out.)

    1. 5:00-5:30 is my "normal". Chloe Jo & her birds think otherwise. I think the birds wake her up, so I am fair game, then. Let me know how it goes with your email; I may be able to help. Hugs!

  8. I love your answers! I agree that should be a law. I was just thinking about Authors card game yesterday, I loved it as a child and I bought my Mom that game a few years ago. I was thinking she needs to bring it over so we can play. I am glad our cats let us sleep in later than that. And what a lovely memory of your beach trip. I never saw hermit crabs on a beach, but I used to own some. My niece had bought some at a souvenir shop at the beach, we had them for several years. My Mom, niece and I used to race them on the table :) Have a great weekend!

    1. Oh, definitely get that game out and play it. I may to get a hold of a deck, now! We used to race our captive hermits on the beach. It was so fascinating to watch them! HUGS! Love you guys!

  9. Annie,

You found a dead baby shark in the lake? It amazes me just a bit how people aren't responsible. If you can't care for an exotic animal then don't own it or when you realize the truth then do the right thing by giving it to a zoo or Aquarian. We get up early through the week for obvious reasons but not on the weekend and it's nice to NOT have to do it unless we want to now that the kids are out of the house. Have a good weekend and thanks for hosting! ;)

    1. I found the shark on the beach at Galveston. There are a few species in that area, even now. But, I was totally amazed! This was well before Jaws. Still, I had to bury the poor thing. He was a good 3' long!

  10. i agree with you --the birds wake me up first thing in the AM even before the cats!

  12. OH MY GOODNESS! Authors! I had that card game when I was a little girl and LOVED it. I've never known another person who even knew what that was. I sure wish I would have mentioned it in my post. I love your answer to #1!

  14. The early morning light is waking me up as well. I've been waking at about 3am and it's like daylight already outside. It's slightly disconcerting thinking that you've overslept, only to discover that you've got another three hours before the alarm go off.

  17. It was at Galveston Beach we learned that Windex is the cure for most stings. My brother was stung by a jellyfish. The lifeguard called a beach squad and they sprayed Windex on the sting. The pain was gone immediately. Have a great week.

    1. Windex is supposedly amazing. I know there were terrible stings when I was a kid. I had friends who were stung badly.

  20. I wish I knew what happened next between that owl and the kitty cat.

The "fresh birds in the morning" pic is funny!

The birds here are chattering away in the 4am hour, too. But, they have to wait until daylight before I can go out there to feed them. Snakes in the dark are not my cup of tea. :)

    Have a blessed weekend!

    1. There are videos of these two. Nature is wonderful!
I have an elderly friend who feeds the birds three times a day, to make sure they always have what they need. He is very dedicated! Hugs!

    2. Feeding the birds is a great way to control blood pressure. Although the last few days mine has been higher than it should be, overall, since I've been feeding and photographing them, my blood pressure has been very good, better than its been in years. :)

  21. That would be an awesome law to have passed! People who abuse animals should suffer the consequences all around.

I forgot about Spades! That's one I used to play with my favorite grandmother all the time along with Gin Rummy and Hearts. ;) I've never heard of "Authors" - I'm going to have to look that up!

I wake up much earlier with summer imminently upon us, too - I can't sleep when it's bright out, so the sun rising always wakes me up, as do the birds singing their morning tunes. :)

I love your childhood camping memories - especially love that you named and buried the dead shark. Your empathy towards animals started at a very early age! Very cool! ;) Have a great weekend! :)

  23. Your memes always make me smile. I have never heard of the card game, Authors. That sounds like such an interesting vacation when you were 11. I totally agree with your #1, as you would expect. Sending lots of love and prayers. How are Maggie and Chloe Jo doing? XOXO, Janet

  25. Great fill in answers as always. In our state they are starting a registry for animal abusers...a registry that shelters and rescue groups can use. Paws up!
