Lessons

As she packed up her office, Naomi reflected on her past thirty-five years of teaching.

To Naomi, the “heart of caring” for others was always just as important as the science of nursing. She knew she had taught each student how to nurse a patient, both in body and spirit.

She didn't know how many nurses she had taught, but now she hoped they would meet again. She needed to put herself into their hands as she was forced to learn to be a patient.

  1. Yes I can understand that...something we may all have to do in time, learn to be a patient and to be patient.

  2. Oh wow. That's really powerful, Annie. It reminds me a bit of the way we're all dependent on others when we enter the world, and then grow up into independent adults who can take care of ourselves. Eventually, though, we get older and once again have to learn to depend on others.

  4. I echo what Meowmeowmans said. No man is an island, we all depend on each other to make it through life. A thought provoking short story.

  5. She can feel proud and have such a sense of well being, for each nurse and the many they will care for!

  6. She will find out how deeply she instilled those values in her students very soon.

  7. You made me ponder things...again. We are all so interconnected and truly dependent on one another. This is how we are meant to be but too often we forget we need each other. Thanks for sharing this message.
