Friendly Fill-ins: Week 46

Welcome to "Friendly Fill-Ins: Week 46".  You can find the blank fill-ins here and at 15andmeowing.com each Thursday.  The first two fill-ins are provided by my great co-host, Ellen. The final two statements are offered by myself. We post the linky on Friday, so we can all share. Please try to visit everyone on the list. They will be glad that you did, but so will you.

I am hoping to be able to finally start feeling better soon. I have new prescriptions for what they now believe is a virulent form of pneumonia. This too shall pass. I m sure of it.

Seven years ago, a "microburst" storm took out the west side fence of our yard. Bill had just re-stained the fence last Summer. Two weeks ago, a wild windstorm took out the fence on the east side of our yard. And so it goes.

We had to file a claim for the fence, as it was literally destroyed. After insurance adjusters and fence builders got their heads together, the fence has now been replaced. Stella and Kenzie are so happy to have free run of their yard back. In fact, they immediately had a severe case of The Zoomies!

I posted Maggie's update last night. Thank you for asking about and praying for her. We all appreciate it very much.

This is the first weekend of Spring. I wish you wonderful weather, so you are able to fully enjoy the weekend doing something you love. We plan to go see "Kong: Skull Island". We need a date night.

Did you think the questions were challenging this week? I hope you had fun with them. I sure did. Here are my completed fill-ins:

1. In the Spring, I look forward to migration and seeing wildlife, again. My Spring is fulfilled when I see the seasonal critters return and everyone is doing their thing.

2. I would love to have a Moving party. We still are planning to move UP North. I refer you to my poem "Brockway", for all of the reasons. This is our life's dream. We are looking for just the right house in the UP to make it happen.

3. Few know this about me, but I was going to be a nun. When I converted at age nineteen, I felt I needed to be a nun to be close to God. I was taking the steps with a Convent to join them. At that time, Bill and I were close friends. He gently convinced me that we should be together. He was right. Thank heaven he is a Catholic, too.

4. No one here gets out alive. That is not to say to live a wild life while you can. Life shouldn’t be about us. I believe we are supposed to use our moments wisely and with purpose. We should strive to make a positive difference in the world in our own special way. Our ultimate legacy will be reflected in the way we lived.

~May you always love & be loved.~

The Heart of the Matter

Thank you to all who have asked about and prayed for Maggie. This means so much to us all.

Today, Maggie had a very long day that took a lot out of her...and only brought forth more mystery. Dr. S. did several tests, including more x-rays and an endoscopy. The lump in her throat seems to be some kind of swelling of unknown origin. It is compressing her trachea and compromising her breathing. She is now on anti-inflammatories which we hope will lessen, if not resolve, the swelling.

The tests also revealed my fear that her heart is more enlarged and weaker, which also affects her breathing. Her heart is a serious factor in how we proceed. We are still not sure what is causing the lump and swelling. But, with cardiomyopathy, unknown swelling, and rattled breathing, congestive heart failure is a real fear.

For now, she will take the new prescriptions, along with her heart medication. We will closely monitor her heart, breathing, and the lump, and we will pray very heard for Maggie. Please join us. Hugs.

Mr. Leprechaun

GrandDad believed in leprechauns, saying he had proof. He told me one lived in the big flower pot out back.

“If you ask him what he is doing, he will tell you”, GrandDad insisted. So, I asked Mr. Leprechaun what he was doing in that old flower pot, but got no response.

As I gave GrandDad my disappointed look, he laughingly said, “See? He said nothing.”

My A-Z Theme Reveal

Today is the “A-Z Challenge Reveal”. Last year was my first time to accept the challenge, and I completed the challenge, too. My A-Z list was poetry. I actually enjoyed it, after the initial panic passed. This year, I will accept the challenge again. I will panic again, too. But, then I hope to enjoy it.

My A-Z theme this year is: Lifeblood Songs. I have always said that my life has a soundtrack. For as long as I can remember, music has always been an important connection for me. My earliest memories involve music and specific songs. These songs often hold a time and place for me.

It is no surprise that I married an extremely creative, talented lead guitarist. We had an instant connection, too. Bill admired my writing and I admired his musical ability. Respect and love grew from that kinship.

This April, I plan to share songs that are sentimental or have deep meaning for me. While the music is always important as it has an emotion of its own, the lyrics are especially important to me. As a poet, words are my tools of both communication and survival. Songs speak to me in a special way. With that in mind, I will post both lyrics and a video for the song of the day. The song I choose will reveal a bit about my thoughts and feelings; I may or may not explain them.

I hope that you will enjoy my A-Z theme this year. I hope it moves you in some way. If you are participating in the A-Z challenge, please let me know so I can be sure to visit and support you, too. So, let the fun begin on April 1st! But, before then, I have work to do.

Another Saint

St. Gertrude
Let us also remember to honour a saint who has a feminine touch.  Gertrude was a strong, independent, thinking woman. She is the caretaker of nature, gardening, and cats. She also watches over travelers. It is said she can calm the stormy seas, when she is called upon.

Friendly Fill-ins: Week 45

Welcome to "Friendly Fill-Ins: Week 45"!  You can find the fill-ins here and at 15andmeowing.com each Thursday. We post the linky on Friday, so we can all share. The first two fill-ins are provided by my great co-host, Ellen. The final two statements are offered by myself.

Thank you for joining us each week. Your participation makes this weekly event so much fun. I always look forward to your answers. Please try to visit everyone on the list. It is so very worthwhile. Thanks.

Maggie hopes to have her procedure next week, to find out what the mass in her throat is. The sneezing seems to be settling down. Please keep her in your prayers.

Enjoy your weekend. May it be wonderful in every way. Stay safe and enjoy the greening that is hopefully happening near you. ๐Ÿ€

Did you think the questions were challenging this week? I did. Here are my completed fill-ins:

1. The oldest item in my home is my great-grandparent’s wedding portrait. It is from August 5, 1891, and is in its original frame with original glass. I have loved this as long as I can remember. Grandpa was 6’2; Granny was 4’8. In the portrait, she was standing and he was sitting, so you cannot see their size difference. Lionhearted, they both had a lot of pride and very strong wills. He was Welsh; She was Scots-Irish. I cherish this portrait.

Grandpa & Granny were lionhearted, especially as a couple.

2. The oldest item in my refrigerator is the heavy glass butter dish with lid, which is a necessity with cats. We have had a few who liked to indulge in butter, if they were allowed. Currently, it would be George.

3. My family heritage is “mongrel”. Legend has it that I am English, Welsh, Scots-Irish, German, Dutch, and Cherokee. My roots are mostly from the U.K. The sad thing is that my family tree was never preserved, with branches being piled up here and there, and even burned along the way. The stories that were handed down have been preserved mostly by me, but so much is unknown. Bill is half Hungarian and half English, but there are secrets there, too.

4. My favourite family tradition is the Southern flavour of life handed down from all of my ancestors.  The best part of it was the storytelling, including colourful expressionsI am first-generation northerner, and the only one born in Chicago. My best years were “down yonder”, though. My childhood was steeped in Southern pride and traditions.

Maggie's Naptime

Maggie is resting comfortably...most of the time.

She is very agreeable about sharing her space.*
(*Notice the lump next to her?)

She does have a minion who likes to be near her often.
(Can you guess who?)

Maggie has the patience of a saint. Truly.

Maggie has been sneezing the past couple of days. We are hoping this will settle down without the intervention of medication. Consequently, her vets felt it was best for her to postpone the exploratory procedure until next week. Please keep her in your prayers as she really needs them right now. Head butts and hugs from Maggie. ๐Ÿ’˜

Friendly Fill-ins: Week 44

Welcome to this edition of "Friendly Fill-Ins"! You can find the fill-ins here and at 15andmeowing.com each Thursday. We hope it gives you time to join us. The first two fill-ins are provided by my wonderful co-host, Ellen. The final two statements are offered by myself. We post the link with our answers, so you can all share the completed fill-ins.

Thank you again, for joining us each week. Your participation has made this a fun weekly event for everyone. We hope you have as much fun as we do. Please remember to try to visit everyone on the list. That is half of the fun.

Bill has a longer weekend, after a rough week. I will be around to visit everyone, as always. But, it may take some time. Speaking of time, remember to re-set your clocks this weekend. "Spring forward, and Fall back".

We hope you all have a great weekend, but with this unstable weather be careful to stay safe!

Here we go...my completed fill-ins for this week are as follows:

1. I hope Criminal Minds gets renewed for another season. I have been a fan of this show from the start. I find the study of behavior analysis extremely fascinating.

2. My first crush was in Kindergarten. His name was Mark. We were total opposites in every way. He was Jewish and quiet. I was Gentile and bold. Mark lived next door to my babysitter, who was in high school. I remember Mary having a party; everyone from the neighborhood was there. She and her boyfriend were dancing. Mark asked me to dance, and so we did. Everyone was oohing-and-ahhing. We felt so grown up. He then kissed me on the cheek

3. Real injustice usually makes me very distressed. I want to see things righted. Perceived injustice makes me feel very disquieted, though. There is much injustice in the world today. However, there is a serious difference between “rights” and privileges.

 4. If I were a super-hero, I would be invisible and unknownAll of my good deeds would be unexplained and untraceable. I could fly, enter any place, and escape through any opening. I would be my own secret.

Remember:
you don't have to be super to be a hero!

Our Rainbow Friends

We have a Rainbow Bridge page for our own furkids who have crossed The Rainbow Bridge. But, we have now added a new page to McGuffy's Reader. We call it Rainbow Friends. These friends may have crossed The Bridge, but they also left footprints on our heart while they were here. We want to honour these friends whom we have grown to know and love. Please visit our both of our Rainbow pages. Peace.

Birthday Blessings

Stella is 7 today!

Last year she got a sister for her birthday.
She watches over Kenzie very well.

She is surrounded by her loving cats, too...
like Maggie (on the left) and George, here.

But, none of them loves her like Chloe Jo does.

Stella has a busy life filled with love.

We are all blessed by Stella every day.
But, this one is for you...
Happy birthday, Stella!
We love you!

Hangin' with the Dude

The Kit Tent

George loves to nap in his "tent", in Dad's chair.

He says it is just a dude thing.

Chloe Jo is not to be left out of anything, though.

Hey...this is supposed to be just a dude thing!

But, Maggie likes a good warm place to nap.

I guess everyone will just have to take turns.
